Tipp: Ticks

Ticks - and how one can protect its dog against it

Ticks are not only annoying beasts, they can also transfer diseases to person and animal. This is the case because these animals drink blood of so-called hosts and have therefore always a rest of blood of the last host in themselves.

With dogs the Borreliose or Lyme-disease can thereby appear which can be in some cases even lethally for our four-legged friend.

Against ticks different means, which can be bought in zoo specialist shops, can help. We have tried out some of it and later then pure ethereal oil of eucalyptus.

With this oil we have done very good experiences. Some spatters of it to the legs, the belly and the back and the dog is protected very well against ticks. Eucalyptus must possess a smell which is not liked by the ticks at all and that is why these leave the dog in peace.

However, completely all ticks can not be expelled with it, that is why we observe our dog after a walk in the forest very carefully and take the ticks walking on the fur immediately. Because the lower part of the dog with the oil is 'contaminated', the ticks must work the way upwards difficultly. Then in the bright fur portions they are very simply evident and readable.

It is a matter of paying attention to that the real pure ethereal oil of eucalyptus is used and not possibly the artificial one. It is a little bit more expensive than the artificial, but however, is so much better. Moreover, must be considered that the oil does not come into contact with mucous membranes of the dog (and naturally the people), we want to save our dog, nevertheless, from an involuntary dance parts.

As protection against Lyme a dog can get some vaccination (not possible for persons), but the annoying beast are not stopped to fall over our dog. Please discuss this with your veterinarian.
