Breed standards

General appearance and character

The following determinations of the race of the Alaskan Malamute were taken from the standard regulation of the FCI and were returned here partly.

The Malamute was brought 2000 years ago by the ancestors of the Malamutes, a tribe which had immigrated from Siberia to Alaska. Only in the middle of the twenties these animals were shown for the first time on an exhibition. Before this only businessmen and missionaries have seen, with what ease the native knew how to steer their powerful dogs.

Individual breed standards

The Alaskan Malamute is from loving and friendly temperament. It is a strongly built use dog of the Arctic which is used in this wide in order to pull the most difficult weights.

 

 

 

 

Head

The head is strong and wide, however, must stand in a weighed out relation to the body size of the dog not to allow to appear coarse the dog. The skull is easily rounded between the ears and wide

Foreface

The snout is wide and massive, but only a little sharpened from the root attempt up to nose, the chaps lie closely close, entire mole set of teeth, nobody before return bite.

Nose

The nose is black, only with red-white dogs it might be brown.

Eyes

Oblique-sitting almond-shaped eyes; a dark colour of eyes is preferred

Ears

The ears are small in comparison to size of the head and are raised, during the work, however, often to the head invested carried.

Body

The body should appear not urged, but strongly to compact. The flanks of the dog are extremely muscular. Excessive weight is not desirable.

Rod

The rod is central-high set on, circularly rolled, but not repeatedly curled and richly grows hairs. She is carried about the back if the dog does not work.

Legs

The forelegs are muscular and have heavy bones. The hind legs are also strong, the ankle joints are extremely strong. The claws are short and hard, between the toes a protecting hair layer must be. Weakness in the paws or runs is a big mistake.

Hair

The fur of the Malamute should not be too long or be too soft. The unterfur is oily, close and woolly.

Color

The colors go from light gray to black by all shades as far as purely white dog. Parts of the trunk, runs and paws and partial badges are white. The face badges appear in the form of mask or cover-well-behaved.

Measurement

Dogs reach a weight of 39 kg with a shoulder height of 63.5 cm, bitches with a shoulder height of 58.5 weigh 34 kg.
